I have owned this product for about two months. I have a 17″ laptop and this is one of the few coolers I could find that would hold a large laptop. My laptop extends about 1/2″ over either side, but it is very stable. (The cooler has a non-skid strip going across the bottom.) I intended to use it as a cooler and, eventually, as a way of backing up my laptop. As a cooler, it worked very well for me. I am not a “power user” (no games or high end graphics, just using Office and the Internet). A bonus was that is functioned as a docking station for me as well. It has a USB hub in the back, so I could plug in all my peripherals to the cooler and then connect the cooler to my laptop and that way, when I needed to take my laptop with me, I just had to unhook my laptop from the cooler and everything else stayed attached to the cooler. The cooler did not have a separate power adapter and that is fine if you use it at a desk where you can plug your laptop’s power adapter in. I recently purchased a SATA hard drive to install in the cooler’s bay and a power adapter. (I had read somewhere that you should use the power adapter if you are going to use a hard drive in the cooler.) It was easy to install and it works great. The only issue now is there is no easy way to turn off the cooler when I power down my laptop. (When it was powered by USB, when the computer turned off, the cooler turned off.) But it is great to have a hot-swap hard drive to backup to, without have extra “stuff” on my desk.
When my laptop is sitting on the cooler, the cooler really isn’t visible, so any fingerprints, etc., don’t show.

This is my first Mac and I wanted to make sure the little guy didn’t overheat while I uploaded photos and such. I had done a few searches and checked out some product reviews before committing to this cooler. Here’s my take on it so far:
Pros:
Very very quiet! There is an adjustable dial for the speed of the dual fans and even at max spin, you cannot hear them unless you put your ear next to them in a silent room. It is barely humming.Nice fit. Good ergonomics for typing on a table.
Fits under my 13″ early 2011 Mac Pro notebook nicely with about an inch around to spare. The cooler is a wedge shape and it puts my Mac in a great typing position for me on my breakfast table. I haven’t tried to use it on my lap, although it is rather lightweight so with a good lap pillow that might work.Cools my Mac. When you turn the cooler on you can feel the airflow. The true test was when I opened multiple windows, starting uploading photos and watched a movie online instantly. My Mac felt just a tad lukewarm underneath–a big improvement from when I ran it under a similar load without the cooler–my Mac felt like a hand warmer.
Comes with a USB connector cable with 2 options for connection. The connector has 2 “heads” you can use, USB to USB or USB to Pc. My Mac has 2 USB ports on the left side, one being used by my wireless mouse adapter. This would have been a problem with a shorter than 20″ USB to USB connector chord since this cooler’s configuration has its control and connector panel in the front of the device. With the Pc port option, I can easily connect the cooler to my Mac. I used a twist tie to keep the extra USB “head” from flopping about.
Cons:
Cost. For the price of this cooler, I think they could have thrown in the DC 5V adapter for free. For a Zalman product, the cooler feels very cheaply made. Plastic construction.
Control panel placement. Most coolers have the connection on the side, it is a bit of a pain in the neck (literally) to find the speed control and ports when they are in the front middle of the product. Unless you remember to plug everything in and have the device/s turned on BEFORE you place your notebook and cooler on a table, this can be rather annoying for the user.
Size. This cooler is portable but think twice if you think it will fit into a messenger bag. A regular backpack maybe. I plan to use this cooler primarily at home so for me that’s not an issue. If you plan to travel, this might not be the cooler for you. It is rather lightweight but bulky.
Overall: I would buy this product again. I could not give it 5 stars because the first shipped cooler I received was defective and appeared used (there was a bent USB prong in one of the ports and the side was scratched). However, Amazon was great about shipping me a replacement and the returns process was painless. The second cooler was nice and new and came with an extra packet of replacement screws which were not present in my first shipment. Also, I did not comment on the 2.5″ HDD enclosure since I did not use it.

It really helped my new Mac Book Pro 13-inch a lot, lowered the heat from 71/69 ‘C to 37/42 ‘C (NOT GAMING), which is about 21 degrees. Plus it has extra USB hubs and a 2.5HD hard drive inclosure. It works perfect thank you for the product!
