I have owned this product for about two months. I have a 17″ laptop and this is one of the few coolers I could find that would hold a large laptop. My laptop extends about 1/2″ over either side, but it is very stable. (The cooler has a non-skid strip going across the bottom.) I intended to use it as a cooler and, eventually, as a way of backing up my laptop. As a cooler, it worked very well for me. I am not a “power user” (no games or high end graphics, just using Office and the Internet). A bonus was that is functioned as a docking station for me as well. It has a USB hub in the back, so I could plug in all my peripherals to the cooler and then connect the cooler to my laptop and that way, when I needed to take my laptop with me, I just had to unhook my laptop from the cooler and everything else stayed attached to the cooler. The cooler did not have a separate power adapter and that is fine if you use it at a desk where you can plug your laptop’s power adapter in. I recently purchased a SATA hard drive to install in the cooler’s bay and a power adapter. (I had read somewhere that you should use the power adapter if you are going to use a hard drive in the cooler.) It was easy to install and it works great. The only issue now is there is no easy way to turn off the cooler when I power down my laptop. (When it was powered by USB, when the computer turned off, the cooler turned off.) But it is great to have a hot-swap hard drive to backup to, without have extra “stuff” on my desk.

When my laptop is sitting on the cooler, the cooler really isn’t visible, so any fingerprints, etc., don’t show.

This is my first Mac and I wanted to make sure the little guy didn’t overheat while I uploaded photos and such. I had done a few searches and checked out some product reviews before committing to this cooler. Here’s my take on it so far:

Pros:
Very very quiet! There is an adjustable dial for the speed of the dual fans and even at max spin, you cannot hear them unless you put your ear next to them in a silent room. It is barely humming.

Nice fit. Good ergonomics for typing on a table.
Fits under my 13″ early 2011 Mac Pro notebook nicely with about an inch around to spare. The cooler is a wedge shape and it puts my Mac in a great typing position for me on my breakfast table. I haven’t tried to use it on my lap, although it is rather lightweight so with a good lap pillow that might work.

Cools my Mac. When you turn the cooler on you can feel the airflow. The true test was when I opened multiple windows, starting uploading photos and watched a movie online instantly. My Mac felt just a tad lukewarm underneath–a big improvement from when I ran it under a similar load without the cooler–my Mac felt like a hand warmer.

Comes with a USB connector cable with 2 options for connection. The connector has 2 “heads” you can use, USB to USB or USB to Pc. My Mac has 2 USB ports on the left side, one being used by my wireless mouse adapter. This would have been a problem with a shorter than 20″ USB to USB connector chord since this cooler’s configuration has its control and connector panel in the front of the device. With the Pc port option, I can easily connect the cooler to my Mac. I used a twist tie to keep the extra USB “head” from flopping about.

Cons:

Cost. For the price of this cooler, I think they could have thrown in the DC 5V adapter for free. For a Zalman product, the cooler feels very cheaply made. Plastic construction.

Control panel placement. Most coolers have the connection on the side, it is a bit of a pain in the neck (literally) to find the speed control and ports when they are in the front middle of the product. Unless you remember to plug everything in and have the device/s turned on BEFORE you place your notebook and cooler on a table, this can be rather annoying for the user.

Size. This cooler is portable but think twice if you think it will fit into a messenger bag. A regular backpack maybe. I plan to use this cooler primarily at home so for me that’s not an issue. If you plan to travel, this might not be the cooler for you. It is rather lightweight but bulky.

Overall: I would buy this product again. I could not give it 5 stars because the first shipped cooler I received was defective and appeared used (there was a bent USB prong in one of the ports and the side was scratched). However, Amazon was great about shipping me a replacement and the returns process was painless. The second cooler was nice and new and came with an extra packet of replacement screws which were not present in my first shipment. Also, I did not comment on the 2.5″ HDD enclosure since I did not use it.

It really helped my new Mac Book Pro 13-inch a lot, lowered the heat from 71/69 ‘C to 37/42 ‘C (NOT GAMING), which is about 21 degrees. Plus it has extra USB hubs and a 2.5HD hard drive inclosure. It works perfect thank you for the product!

Cool color and the lid stays on which is usually an issue with flash drives. So much better than the retractable USB connector type because those don’t actually protect the connector. The only suggestion I would make to the company is to add a mini chord so you don’t ever lose the lid.

I’m on my 3rd casemate POP case and I am obsessed. I have the Verizon iPhone 4 and I tend to drop my phone a lot…. and this case has never failed me! I have been using this type of case for a year, yes the back scratches easy but it keeps my phone so safe!!! I have dropped my phone really hard onto just about every surface (opps..) and with this case, I dont have to worry about if my screen is going to be cracked when I pick it up!! My last two cases I bought straight from Case-Mate but this case was less then half the price so I went with this one, and it covers up my mute button a tiny, tiny bit but i can still mute and unmute it whenever and it lines up on the volume buttons fine.. so for $12.95 verse $35. It is PERFECT!

It’s a decent case but not great. I bought it for a 4S but it doesn’t fit correctly. Around the volume buttons it something it’s right and it pushes the side of the case out a touch, the mute button is spot on though. I didn’t count this against the score though because it isn’t listed as fitting. I have two complaints. First is the plastic on the back, it scratches very easily and looks very work after just a month and a half. Second is the difficulty in taking it out of the case, it’s a pain in the rear. It certainly doesn’t just “pop” out! Another minor complaint is the “holla” on the inside. I don’t know why but it just bugs me. Other than that it’s a nicely designed case in a protection vs bulk. It did turn out to be to bulky from me but I would expect it to survive a pretty good drop though thankfully I didn’t have to test that. I’ve moved on to a slimmer but less protective case, just personal preference.

Purchased this for primary use on airplanes/airports. I was hoping it also would work well in an office environment. The privacy aspect is great, the viewing angle is the best I have seen when compared to other “non-gold” filters. The problem I have is the level of reflectivity. If you have background light such as windows in an office it makes the screen almost unusable. You see yourself in the screen and any light sources in the background. On the plane this does not seem to be a problem because the plane windows are not visible (like a mirror) from your seat. Since a plane is my primary purpose the screen works fine for me (and looks really cool with the gold-out effect), but I was hoping to get more office use (like some other filters) with less reflection.

It works especially well with window light hitting it. If fellow workers do stand directly behind me, I just spin around and they back off. I reordered the one for a 17″ Mac Pro as it fits better than the one 3M recommends for the 15.5″. The 3M recommended screen fits only over the viewing area and leaves about a 1″ border to the edge of the screen and is held on with cheesy plastic tabs that glue on the screen. It looks bad and in two weeks the cheesy plastic mounting tabs fell off. You will have much difficulty cleaning the laptop screen with the cheesy plastic tabs glued in place. The Gold Screen for the 17″ Mac Pro fits over the entire screen of the 15.5″ Mac Pro and is right to the edge of the entire screen. It just leans up against the screen as it leans back. It is a glove fit and is well worth the difference. It lays down flat when I close the screen and travels well. Don’t buy the Gray Screen Filter, the Gold is 500% better! The Gray was a costly mistake. Cheaper isn’t always the answer. Also, I bought directly from 3M and paid way too much one the first round. Warning: I’m an engineer so I like to describe things in terms of math and angles…that said:
This is the best privacy filter I’ve come across. I had previously purchased the 3M PF14.1W standard black privacy screen from Amazon, but returned it quickly because the privacy is not nearly as good as advertised. On my Lenovo T410s the screen was still visible at almost 60-degrees off-axis, compared to the 30-degrees advertised. Once that was returned I upped for the Gold version, the 3M GPF14.1W, and while it isn’t perfect it does pretty close to what’s advertised.

This product advertises a 30-degree off-axis viewing angle (or 60-degree total viewing cone), past which the screen is obscured. I found that this is close, but the real angle is about 45-degrees. At 30-degrees only the far half of the screen is obscured, and at 45-degrees almost all of the screen is shiny gold (except the closest quarter is still slightly visible). If you stand beyond 45-degrees it is completely illegible. Unlike other privacy screens this one also offers some vertical filtering, meaning that someone standing directly over your shoulder would in fact see a blue screen (horizontally it appears orange/gold, but vertically it appears blue as it is obscured). The reverse side of the filter is black if you don’t want passers-by to see a shiny gold screen, but the black side doesn’t provide quite as much privacy as the gold does. Lighting affects the privacy as well, turning down the screen’s brightness makes the “viewing cone” shrink and your privacy increase.

As other reviews have mentioned, there are some downsides to this product. The biggest for me is that the filter is pretty shiny, it’s akin to having a glass screen on your laptop. It’s mostly ignorable for me, but any bright or direct lights behind me get reflected strongly. There are also slightly visible diagonal lines, only if you’re very picky would they be a bother. Slightly more noticeable is the imprint of the product number in the top of the filter, it’s pretty light but you can see some faint lettering in your toolbar at the top of the screen (again, doesn’t bother me though). For me the biggest con, besides the reflectivity, is the plastic tabs needed to hold it in place. They do a fine job and are very sticky, but they look pretty tacky and do obscure the screen slightly on the edges where they’re placed. I got used to it though and it’s nice being able to leave the filter on as I close/open the laptop.

Overall this is the best privacy filter I’ve owned or seen. It’s very much worth the price increase over the standard 3m PF14.1W (which did practically nothing). If you use the gold side then almost no one will be able to see or read the screen until they’re almost directly behind you. With the gold side there’s about a 45-degree viewing angle (or 90-degree viewing cone) beyond which the screen appears completely gold. Even at 30-degrees it is mostly illegible (except for the closest half or third). And for me all of the negatives were easy to get over. I would definitely recommend this product.

I was so excited while waiting for this fm transmitter’s arrival. I was so eager to listen my iphone songs in my car radio only to be disappointed by the constant static of this fm transmitter with the songs. This is the cheapest of the bunch but I dont think $20 is too less for an fm transmitter… for sanity’s sake it is just an fm transmitter… I am not expecting a bose quality sound system but static….Not very happy.. I should have gone for an expensive one in the first place.. now I ended up paying for the inbound and outbound (return) shipping for this product…

I have used the car charger for about one month. The charger works well. The FM transmitter for the car stereo work ok, but be prepared to change to a different channel when you encounter interference.

I won’t trust the charger to hold my Iphone. The rubber pads designed to hold the phone would not lock in place. The weight of my phone is not sufficient to hold it in place either. I am currently debating the use of rubber bands, super glue to hold the pads in place or simply purchasing a different product.

By the way…I love remote controls. This one is worthless.

I have three complaints regarding this device:

(1) The part of the device that plugs into the car’s cigarette lighters (i.e. outlets) is a rigid plug extending from the back of the device. This means that if your cigarette lighters are tucked into corners, gloveboxes, etc., the device cannot be plugged into your car. You need a wide, unobstructed approach coming into your outlet. Check out the pictures I added to the product description – you’ll see what I mean.

(2) I live in an urban area where MANY radio stations broadcast FM signals. There is only one spot on the dial that is essentially unused, and therefore available to the device. The sound quality in this one open spot is not that great – some static carries through. Perhaps we will get better transmission on our drives into rural areas of the country.

(3) While the device claims to be compatible with iPhone 3G, it is not an Apple supported device. Consequences? (a) Your iPhone gets forced into Airplane Mode when you connect to the device. (b) You get warnings about it being an unsupported device, and (c) The battery charging icon does not indicate that charging is actually occurring. (No giant green battery on the front screen.) All this gives me the heebie-jeebies, but perhaps that’s just what Apple wants me to feel. We paid a lot for our iPhones 3G, and using unsupported gear makes me nervous.

A redesign of the plug on the back would solve the fit problem, but not the issue of it being an unsupported product.

Be sure to check the vendor’s return policy before choosing this for your car. You may need to send the device back!

BIG. If you have a 3 megapixel camera or higher, then this SD card is for you. You should take all your pictures at the highest resolution and the least compression as possible. For 3 mp cameras, each picture will be about 1 MB to 1.5 MB (more than 300 pictures in this card). For 4 mp cameras, each picture will be about 2 MB (about 250 pictures in this card). This card will allow you take a LOT of pictures before you’ll have to unload to your computer.

FAST. This card not only carries a lot of storage space, this is also fast. Even if the card is full, you will be able to download all your pictures to your computer in under a minute instead of several minutes on a regular card.

There’s a review here where someone takes their COMPUTER and analyzes the performance of the card. Unfortunately, most of the time what matters is how the card works with your CAMERA. A camera generally doesn’t move data as fast as a computer, and it has to process it first – so those tests really only measure how fast you can download the images (or other files) to your hard drive. If that matters to you, great.

For the rest of you, especially camera users, here’s the real story:
- You need a faster than standard card if you plan to use 30fps 640×480 video. It’s also a good idea with high resolution cameras, if they are especially fast at processing and writing the images.
- But … I just bought a different 512MB SD card for $10 after rebate. It’s hard to beat that price / performance ratio if you’re just storing photographs. Sure, video of the 2 year old nephews is fun a couple times a year, but other than that, regular speed cards work fine for many uses.

Always buy what’s right for your needs. And, if the price differences are small, go with the faster card.

There are promotions every week on various memory cards, look for one if you have time. Those can make higher speed cards a good value, though the standard speed cards have gotten so inexpensive you may want one as a backup as well.
